First Lutheran Classical School opened its doors in the fall of 2009. It's important to understand why.
Every school has a worldview. Our public schools serve a diverse population but that doesn't mean they have a neutral perspective and set of values. We believe that all things, including knowledge and wisdom, are understood in relation to Jesus Christ. Our school’s foundation stands on that core principle.
As the seeds of FLCS were planted, we also committed to providing academic excellence, a safe school community, and a structured environment conducive to learning while infused with love, respect, joy, and encouragement. We made a firm commitment to meet the wholistic educational needs of students in partnership with their parents. After studying educational philosophies, methodologies, and outcomes, we chose the one that made sense and was proven successful.
While FLCS is a ministry of First Lutheran Church, our mission is to provide a wonderful option for all families in the Missoula area who seek a school that provides educational excellence and the development of virtues and character that reflects Christ. Our purpose is not to gain members for our church, but to serve families and to nurture students’ faith in the one, true God. Our teachers are Christians and our curriculum is in alignment with Scripture. We serve families affiliated with various denominations and some with no church affiliation.
Our congregation is a member of The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS). The LCMS has the largest protestant parochial school system in the world, operating more than 1600 early childhood centers and preschools, 800 elementary schools, 130 high schools, and a national university system. We are proud to represent this rich and extensive ministry in the Missoula community.
